Alex was born and raised in Donetsk, Ukraine where he grew up in a Christian family with four siblings. In 1997 at the age of 16 Alex and his family immigrated to the United States and settled in Federal Way. After graduating from Federal Way High School in 1999, he started his plumbing career where he continues to work as a plumber. 

He and his wife Nicole were married in 2001 and have two children ages 10 and seven. 

The Shuparski family began attending VBC from the very beginning as invaluable members of the original launch team.
